Artistic Director, Kotomi R. Matsuda

Kotomi is a graduate of California State University Long Beach with a bachelor of fine arts and a minor in dance. She has performed with internationally recognized companies and masters from the Moscow City Ballet, the Vaganova Ballet Academy and the New York City Ballet. She has also danced with the Ajkun Ballet Theatre and performed in Europe and east coast.

Kotomi received exclusive training from Mansur Kamaletdinov, choreographer and acting artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet. Mansur attended the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he studied directly with Aggripina Vaganova and joined the Kirov Ballet. Kotomi learned the importance of
understanding culture and literature and performing classics. Mansur told her “Ballet is to express nationality and be proud of where we came from. We express emotions not because we want to, but because we need to. We dance out of necessity.

Many of her students have been accepted by the Russian Vaganova Academy, the School of American Ballet Theatre, U. C. L. A., U.C. Berkeley, Notre Dame, the University of Pennsylvania and other prestigious institutions. Her mission is to preserve and pass on the legacy of classical ballet and the performing arts andinspire children and dancers to dance from their heart.
